Ever After High: If I only had a heart :v

Description

Edit 11/28: I've renovated Cora (or Cordelia, technically) with a new look and a modified doll profile and personality, and while not a whole ton otherwise has changed, this post is pretty much obsolete. To her brand new refrence and (much better) artwork, I highly recommend you to go here: Daughter of the Tin Woodman of Oz|Cordelia Chopper

And then I suddenly posted a heart-themed OC posted conveniently on Valentines Day who may or may not be from Oz. You can probably figure out who her fairy tale parent is.  Now before someone cries out "but why isn't your daughter of the Tin (Wood)man an actual tin woman???" lemme 'splain you a thing:

I maaay or may not be sticking to book canon, for obvious reasons. What this means? I'm using common sense by doing what the show does by basing my character off of something literary rather than using Disney and MGM studios as my guide as to not invoke copyright infringement! The Tin Woodman, also known as Nick Chopper, was a Munchkin man who fell in love with a lovely lass named Nimmie Amie. Miss Nimm is the servant to an old woman who didn't want her to marry because she is a cheap and lazy bastard. Said woman made a deal with the Wicked Witch of The East, said Witch enchanted his ax so that it chopped off all his limbs which were lovingly replaced with tin joints, and then his torso was severed by said enchanted ax and that was replaced too. How Nick would even plausibly survive such a thing if this were to happen outside of Oz I will never know, but that's how he lost his heart.

Oh yeah, then he rusted and stayed in his seemingly emotionless, frozen state for a year until a quirky little girl and and a living scarecrow met his acquaintance. And then he became the Emperor of The West after enduring more madness, ruling over the Winkies. Confused? More on that here because you came here for an OC not a history lesson: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_Wood…

So as for how on earth he has a daughter: He adopted her, duh. Found her abandoned somewhere near a village along the border between the West and South, asked around said village to see if the precious gift from above was theirs, no one claimed her, and after a while he decided to raise the little bundle of joy while making an agreement with the village's leader that she is allowed visits there from time to time.

Also said village is unfortunately kinda the Ozian equivalent of the Natives in Peter Pan (called the Tottenhots... yeaaaaaaah), though her physical appearance is a much more politically correct interpretation of how said villagers might look like (aside from her clothing which is mostly steampunk-ish inspired, although the bracelet on her right hand is patch of animal fur that was fastened onto a wide metal bangle, not to mention that her chest binderm belt and leg stocking things are leather). Not gunna mess this up I swear. OR if I do please feel free to douse me with a bucket of gasoline and lovingly light it on fire.

Oh yeah, Cora, her name of course, has a sister named Nikole (made my a friend, who may/may not have an account. I plan to draw her for my friend later ^^). Said sister is a Winkie and happened to be adopted first, hence why her name is more similar to that of the Tin Woodman's

ANYWAY. Submitting this to EverAfterHigh's OC contest. Her bio and info is down below:

~Cora Chopper~

"The thing about hearts? Just because a person has one doesn't mean they know how to use it."

Parent’s Story:
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and select sequels
Roommate: Darnel Hopper
Secret Heart’s Desire: Rule the Winkies? Join a band? Insert-Third-Option? Hex if I know, man.
My “Magic” Touch: Not to brag, but I'm pretty handy with an ax! I mean so is my sis but psh I'm better. Oh yeah, I can play (and make) a mean fife. Yeah, still better than Nikole.
Storybook Romance Status: Contrary to popular belief, I don't keep my heart up my sleeve. Well, try to anyway.
"Oh Curses" Moment: You'd think people would get by now that no, I turn to tin after I graduate, and just because I won't let you walk all over me doesn't give you the excuse to call me "heartless" or whatnot. It was punny the first time, but it's getting really old.
Favorite Subject: Metalwork. The Winkies are 'smiths, what do you expect?
Least Favorite Subject: Woodshop.  I don't need another reminder.
Best Friends Forever After:
Barley's kind of a airhead but eh, he's a sweet guy who means well and all that sappy stuff. And sometimes Nikole and me grind each other's gears, but that's what sibs are for, eh?

~About~

Casually assertive and often walks a fine line between acting cheeky and indifferent. Cora is something of a heart-filled enigma, as her frank, if not teasing demeanor gives off an air of flippant, lighthearted pride. For obvious reasons, her dabbling in facetiousness alone makes some question her adoptive parent's legitimacy.

Though it may be easy to generalize her ludic nature, this self-assured teen may have more to herself than she lets on. Sure it takes a bit to crack, but those spontaneous moments where she takes a sudden liking to a person --- or when, you know, once jibber-jabber/getting used to her ensues? That lucky person (or people --- hey, you never know) will find a bigger heart in her than she'd care to admit. Not that she was trying to be an impudent little twerp. Or was she?

~Royal or Rebel~

Rebel, Rebel, and  Rebelliously Royal. Cora would be more than happy to rule the Winkies on her own (or alongside her sister), just without the whole potential falling-in-love-with-some-random-guy-and-getting-chopped-up-and-going-on-some-pointless-adventure-thing-while-some-Wicked-Witch-takes-over-your-dad's-land bit. Besides: In her opinion, she'd rather there be a story about her, Nikole and their dad kicking the behind of the future Wicked Witch of The West as they attempt (and fail) to seize the land.

~Notes~

--- Raven may or may not have botched her pledge before Cora or Nikole found out which of them was destined to be the next Tin Woodman. Whoops~

--- In spite of what you're thinking, the goggles aren't just there to look snazzy. They're actually her reading glasses, which she made herself.

--- Speaking of homemade metallic objects, Cora was taught metalworking at a relatively young age in her mid-late childhood, having made the vast majority of the metallic portions of her accessories.

--- The bulb things(?) above her ears don't block off sound. She modified it so that they wouldn't, because she is a creatively inventive little weirdo.

--- The four-cornered yellow star/diamond on her chest binder may or may not be a reference to the fact that the Tin Woodman, or Nick, had gotten the shape of star engraved on his chest in the The Marvelous Land of Oz sometime after the Wizard of Oz had last implanted his heart in the first of the series.

--- The reason why she doesn't wear as many silver-themed items as one may expect, or tin, so to speak, may partially be due to Bug wanting to stick with the series as much as she can while maintaining an air of glorious artistic licence. North, East, South and West in the books are each associated with a specific color. The West, the land of the Winkies where she lives, is associated with the color yellow. The Winkies in particular are associated with the the trade of goldsmithing, thus, hints of gold in her jewelry.

--- The Tottenhots first appear in The Patchwork Girl of Oz , the seventh Oz book by L. Frank Baum. With the name alone, if you noticed, unfortunately being an obvious pun to a certain outdated slur, I ensure you that I'm doing my best to pull off having Cora being associated with a controversial grouping in the books while dealing with them accordingly and appropriately, as to make her a well developed character rather than that of a stereotype as they were once written as. If only Baum was ahead of his time when it came to writing race and women/gender expression, but it is what it is and Cora's creator is willing to learn from his mistakes.
